d20 Character Sheet - Manual

The d20 Character Sheet application handles your D&D 5e, D&D v.3.5 and Pathfinder characters. It allows you to create, edit and delete characters. The characters are displayed in a list called Character List. Detailed Information is shown in the Character Sheet. The administration allows to administer your own races, character classes, race abilities, skills, feats, weapons, armor and goods.

Character List

The title of the character list shows the name of the game system you are currently using.

Below all your characters are shown. Each character is displayed with its thumbnail image, name, classes and levels. With a simple touch on a charater you open the Character Sheet.

To delete a character long touch the character and select delete in the popping up context menu.

The action bar allows you to

The option Switch Game System let you alternate between D&D v.3.5 and Pathfinder. In the preferences you can set the background of the character sheet (color or image) and set the game system you want the app to start with.

Backup & Restore allows to backup data to cloud or file and restore from file.

Create Character

Touch the add sign in the action bar to bring up the "Create Character" dialog. Enter the name of the character in the first field and the name of the player (normally your name) in the second field.

Now select the race, sex, alignment and class of your character. If you are fine with your settings press the create button. Your new character is displayed in the Character Sheet.

To change the character class and level of your character touch the stats of your character and edit them. Also insert the ability values of your charater, combat skills, saves and money.

Add more color to your character by adding an image and thumbnail to it. Use the Add Image and Add Thumbnail options of the Character Sheet menu.

To delete a character long touch on it and select the delete option of the context menu.

Export

You can export characters and equipment to a XML file in your download directory. You can send the files to your friends to show them your characters or share equipment. They can use import to load characters and equipment them in their d20 Character Sheet installation.

The list shows all your characters. Select the characters you want to export and touch the export icon in the action bar to save them to a XML file. The name of the export file starts with "d20cs_characters". Followed by the date and time of the export.

The image and thumbnail of your characters are not exported.

The equipment is displayed in three tabs: Weapons, Armor and Goods. You can filter the lists by checking the magic item box. Use the checkbox left of each item to select them for export. Touch the export icon in the action bar to export the selected items to a XML file. The name of the export file starts with "d20cs_equipment", followed by the date an time of the export.

Import

Import

The import allows you to import characters and equipment from a XML file. The XML files must be located in your download directory.

All the available import files are displayed in a list. Touch the file you want to import and confirm that you want to import the file. Characters are always imported, even if a character with the same name already exists in the app. Equipment is only imported if an item with the same name doesn't already exist.

After the import a report is displayed. The successfull import is shown with a green message. A failed import is displayed with a red message. Warnings are displayed in yellow.

Backup & Restore

Backup & Restore

Backup to Cloud stores your D&D v.3.5, Pathfinder and preferences data into the cloud. If you install d20 Character Sheet on a new device your data is restored from the cloud and is directly available on your new device. This is a standard service from Google. In which cloud the data is stored is up to the provider. For detailed information see Androids Data Backup.

Backup to File saves the checked game systems to the download directory of your device. The name of the backup file starts with the name of the database of the game system. Followed by the version of the app and the date and time of the backup.

Restore from File lists all files starting with "pathfinder_db" or "dndv35_db" in your download directory. To restore a file touch it and choose "Restore" in the up popping confirmation dialog.

Preferences

The preferences allow you to configure the background of your character sheet and select the game system the app starts with.

The background of your character sheet can be an image or a color.

The supported game systems are D&D v.3.5 and Pathfinder. Select one game system and the next time you open the app this game system will be loaded first. To switch your game system immediately select Switch Game System from the menu of the character list.

The Manual Dialog displays the link to the manual and homepage of the app. Please Send suggestions and problems to the shown email address. Press the button Open Gaming Licence to display the Open Gaming Licence.

Character Sheet

Character Sheet Menu

The Character Sheet displays all the detail information about your character. It shows its stats, abilities, combat skills, saves, money and its image. You can edit the stats, abilities, combat skills, saves and money by touching them.

Use the tabs to display skills, feats, attacks, equipment, notes, race abilities, class abilities and spell list.

You can change the image or thumbnail of the character by selecting the icons from the action bar.

The current experience points and the experience points of the next level are display. A progress bar shows the advancement in the current level. If the experience points don't match the character level they are displayed in red.

Edit Character

You can edit the character by touching the displayed stats, abilities, combat skills, saves or money. This opens up the according edit dialog.

Appearance

Enter the name of the character in the first field and the name of the player (normally yours) in the second field. Select the race, sex and alignment of your character. Editing class and level are described below.

You can select the XP table your character uses to advance in levels. DnD v.3.5 offers only one XP table (Normal), but Pathfinder allows three differnt tables (Slow, Medium and Fast).
Enter the experience points in the proper field. If your experience points doesn't match your current character level they will be displayed in red on the character sheet. Press back to save the data.

To edit the classes of your character press the Edit Class button. The Edit Class Level dialog will appear. Increase/decrease the level of the class by pressing the minus and plus button. To delete a whole class press the delete button (be careful with this button!). The last class of a character can't be deleted. The level must be 1 at least. To add a new class press the New Class button. To save use back.

The Create Class Level dialog allows you to add a new class to your character. You can select only classes your character has no levels in sofar. Press back to save the data.

Abilities

By touching your ability scores the Abilities dialog opens up. Increase and decrease your abilities and press back to save them. The modificators are calculated and displayed to the right of the ability value.

To perform an ability check touch the modifier of the ability you want to check.

Combat

You set your current hit points by adding or substracting the entered value from your current value.
The max hit point can be set in the same way.

The armor class (AC) is calculated by the following formular. The parameter "other protection" is set by you.

AC = 10 + dexterity modificator + other protection

Initiative is also calculated by a formular (see below). The "misc modifier" is set by you.

INI = dexterity modificator + misc modifier

Combat Maneuver Bonus and Grapple is calculated using the formular below. The "cmb/grapple modifier" is set by you.

CMB/Grapple = base attack bonus + strength modifier + special size modifier + grapple modifier

Combat Maneuver Defence is calculated by the following formular. The "cmd modifier" is set by you.

CMD = base attack bonus + strength modifier + dexterity modifier + special size modifier + cmd modifier

Base attack bonus (BAB) is calculated from the classes and levels of the character.

You can roll your initative and perform checks with your BAB, CMB/Grapple and CMD by touching them.

Saves

Touch the saves and the Saves dialog pops up. The name of the save is displayed in the first column. The second column displays the base save. It is calculated of the classes and levels of the character. The third row contains the ability modifier of the save.
Use the fourth row to add misc modifier to your save. Press back to store the saves.

Money

The money edit dialog pops up, if you touch on the money panel. You modify the number of coins by entering the value you want to add or substract.
Press back to store the money.

Skills

The maximum ranks for class and cross class skills are displayed at the top.

Below the skillpoints are displayed the are calculated on the classes of the character. The first class of the character is determined by the order the classes are entered in the class level dialog. Remember in the first character level the character gets 4x the number of skill points, as he receives later on at level advancement.

The skills are listed in three different tabs. The first tab contains only the skills you marked as favorite.
The second tab called trained displays the skills you have rangs in or can be used even if you are untrained in them.
The last tab displays all skills. In addition skills can be filtered on each tab by typing its name.

Each skill displays its name and skill modifier in its first row. The second row displays all values necessary to calculate the skill modifier. The first value is the attribute of the skill with its modifer, then the rank and the misc modifier. The description of the skill can be shown by touching the skill. You leave the skill description by pressing the back.

To edit skills touch the icon in the action bar.
To execute a skill roll just touch the skill modifier button you want to check. To add or remove favorite skills call the context menu.

All skills are listed alphabetically. You can filter them by entering letters.

Insert your rank and misc modifier for each skill. Use back to save.

Each time you touch the skill modifier button a skill roll is executed. A d20 is rolled, the skill modifier is added and the result is displayed. To hide the result of the skill roll just touch the skill roll result.

You can add and remove skills from the favorite skill tab. Just long touch the skill you want to add or remove. The context menu will appear. Offering the option to add or remove the skill. If you call the context menu on the favorite skill tab the remove option appears. If you call it on the other tabs the add option is available.

The reference description of a skill will be displayed if you long on a skill.

Feats

The feats are divided in three types General, Item Creation and Metamagic. Each type is displayed on its own tab.

Use the checkbox "Show all feats" to display all feats of a type or only the feats owned by your character.

A single click on a feat expands it to display its benefit and its prerequisit. In addition information about fighter bonus feat, how many times the feat can be gained and if its effects stack is displayed. (Augment Summoning isn't a fighter feat and can only be gained once, so no further information is displayed in the screenshot.)

The number of feats are calculated different for D&D v.3.5 and Pathfinder characters.

To add or remove feats from your character just long touch on the feat. The context menu will popup. If the "Show all feats" checkbox is checked you get the option "Add to character".

Some feat can only be added once like Power Attack. Thus they will appear only once in the feat list of your character.

Other feats can be added multiple times, but each time their effect is for a new weapon, skill, spell, school of magic, or selection of spells. These feats will appear multi times in your feat list. Diplaying their category (weapon, skill, spell, school of magic, selection of spells) in brackets after the feat name. You can edit the category of the feat.
The "Edit category" option of the context menu will only appear for this kind of feats.

Some feats can be added multiple times and stack their effect, like Toughness. If you add stacking feats more than once to your character, they will appears as many times in the feat list of your character.

Feats which can be gained multiple times with always a new weapon, skill, spell, school of magic, or selection of spells can be edited. Long touch on the feat and the context menu will diplay the option "Edit category". Select this option to edit the category of the feat.

Enter the category of the feat and press back to store it.

Attacks

Attacks

The attacks of your character with different weapons are listed here. The buttons allow you to roll dice for attack and damage. Each attack has its own name. The default name is the name of the weapon, but you can set every name you want. For example if you fight with two handaxes, one in each hand. Naming them "Handaxe (Primary Hand)" and "Handaxe (Off Hand) will be very usefull.
If you touch the name you can edit your attack.
A long touch brings ub the delete option.

The button right of the name shows your attack bonus. If you click the button an attack roll is done. If you have more than one attack, one button is shown for each attack.

The button below the name rolls the normal damage of your attack.

Right of the damage button the critical button is show. Roll your critical damage by clicking it.

The range increment is displayed next, if the weapon has a range.

For projectile weapons like bows and crossbows the ammunition is displayed at the right. The ammunition is decreased by each attack roll. You increase the ammuntion by each click of the ammunition button.

Below this buttons the description of this attack is listed. You can add a description for each attack. If you touch the description you can edit it.

The attack rolls determins if you hit your opponent. The calculation of your attack bonus includes

The category of the weapon focus feats must match the name of the weapon family of the weapon exactly!!!

The blue die is shown if you perform a normal attack.

The red die is shown if you rolled your critical thread. The confirmation roll is done immediately and its result is also shown.

The white die is shown if you fumbled. You only fumble by rolling a 1.

Touch the die roll dialog to close it.

To create a new attack touch the add sign in the action bar

The damage roll shows your normal damage. The calculation of your damage bonus includes

The category of the weapon specialization feats must match the name of the weapon family of the weapon exactly!!!

After performing a critical hit. You roll critical damage. The critical damage uses the normal damage and multiplies the number of dice to roll and damage bonus by the critical damage multiplier.

Create Attack

The first step to create an attack. Search the weapon you want to attack with. Enter the name of the weapon in the search box on top and the list of weapons will be filtered immediately.

Select the weapon by touching it and the Create Attack dialog shows up.

Name: The name of the attack. It is filled with the name of the weapon by default.
Weapon: The name of the weapon. It can't be changed.
Wield: Select how you wield your weapon. Available options are:
  • Off-Hand: You use the weapon in your Off-Hand while fighting with two weapons.
  • Off-Hand with light weapon in Off-Hand: You use the weapon in your Primary-Hand while fighting with two weapons. In your Off-Hand you carry a light weapon.
  • Primary-Hand: You use the weapon in your Primary-Hand while fighting with two weapon. In your Off-Hand you are not carrying a light weapon
  • One-Handed: You fight only with this weapon in one hand.
  • Two-Handed: You are wieding the weapon with both hands.
The available options depend on the encumbrance of the weapon. Weapons which needs both hands to carry like Greataxe or Greatsword can only be wielded Two-Handed.
Misc Attack Bonus: The misc attack bonus is added to each attack of the weapon. It can be used to add attack bonus which isn't calculated by the app.
Misc Damage Bonus: The misc damage bonus is added to the damage and the critical damage roll of the attack. It can be used to add damage bonus which isn't calcualted by the app.
Description: Enter a description to the attack if you like.

Press back to save the data.

You can edit all properties of your attack as described in create attack.
But you can't change the weapon. If you want to change the weapon delete the existing attack and create a new one.

An attack can be deleted by long touching the name of the attack. The context menu appears and offers the delete option.

Equipment

The equipment contains weapons, armor and goods. Each is displayed in a separate list. Use the tabs to switch between the lists.

The load of the equipment is calculated and displayed at the top of the screen. To calcualte the load the number of each item is multiplied by its weight and added to the total. Goods of type mount or mount gear are not add to the load.

Filter the equipment by entering letters.

Weapons

Weapons

The weapons are display with their number, name, and damage in the first line. The second line displays the type of the weapon. Its cost, weight and critical. You can show or hide the second line by touching the weapon.

Masterwork weapons get the suffix masterwork. Magic weapons are displayed with a light gray background. You can filter magic weapons by checking the Magic Item checkbox.

Categories of weapons:

Ammunition doesn't display damage or critical, because this depends on the weapon which fires the ammunition.

Add and remove equipment by touching the according icon in the action bar.

Armor

Armor

Armor is displayed with its number, name and armor bonus. The second line shows the armor type, cost, weight and skill check penalty. Show or hide the second line by touching the armor.

Masterwork armor get the suffix masterwork. Magic armor are displayed with a light gray background. You can filter magic armor by checking the Magic Item checkbox.

Add and remove equipment by touching the according icon in the action bar.

Goods

Goods are displayed with their number, name, type, cost and weight.

Masterwork goods get the suffix masterwork. Magic goods are displayed with a light gray background. You can filter magic goods by checking the Magic Item checkbox.

The list of goods is very long, so don't forget to filter them by name.

Modify the number of the item to add or remove them from the characters equipment.

Masterwork items are displayed with the suffix masterwork. Magic items are displayed with a light gray background. You can filter them by entering text in the search field on top of the list or checking the Magic Item box.

Filter the lists of items, because they are very long.

Notes

Notes can be added to a character. You can create a new note, edit it later and delete it if not needed anymore. The notes are sorted by date and can be filtered by entering letters.

Create a new note by touching the add icon in the action bar. The current date is displayed and the note is ready for input.

Touch the note you want to edit. Change the content and store it by pressing back.

Long touch on the note you want to delete. The context menu pops up, select "Delete Note" to delete it.

Race Abilities

The properties of the race are displayed on top of the screen. The abilities are listed below.

The race properties contain the name, favored character class, size, reach, base land speed and space of the race.

The abilities are listed with their title, type and description. To expand the ability to show its type and description, just touch on it.

All abilities of your character gained by its classes are displayed in an alphabetical list.

The abilities are listed with their title, type, class, level and description. To expand the ability to show its type, class, level and description just touch on it.

If the checkbox Show all abilities is selected all abilities the character can get by its classes are displayed and a checkbox is shown in front of their name. The checkbox in front of the ability name allows you to select if the ability is owned by your character or not. Only abilities the character has an high enough class level and which are selected as owned are shown in the list.

All spells of a spell list are displayed by there level and in alphabetical order. The name of the spell and its short description is shown. You can expand and collaps spell levels by touching the blue heading of the spell level.

By checking the "Show All" box all spells are displayed with a check box to the left. Check this box to mark the spell as a known spell. If you uncheck the "Show All" only your known spells will be shown.

When you open a spell list the "Show All" box will only be active if you don't have any known spells. After marking your known spells the spell list will open showing only your known spells, which is very comfortable.

The number of allowed known spells for your character is displayed in the blue head line of each spell level in squared brackets to the right. The first number shows how many spells you already marked. The second number is how many known spells are allowed for your character. If your character isn't allowed to know any spells of a level zero is displayed. If your character has no limitation of known spells All is displayed.

The detail information of the spell is displayed. To get back to the spell list press the back button.

Spell Slots

The spell slots are listed on different tabs for each class. At the top level of the tab is the class and level displayed. At the right the ability and its value are shown.

The spell slots orderd by their spell level. To collapse or expand a spell level just touch the heading.
Each spell slot displays the spell name, the difficulty class (DC), the ability it belongs to and school of the spell. The background color of a spell slot is given by the school of the spell, to easily find counter spells to a school.
Empty slots display the name EMPTY SPELL with a black background.

Touch a cast or empty spell slot to open the Spell Slot mask. It displays to which ability the spell slot belongs and a list of spells to select. The spells must be marked in the Known Spells tab first to be available in this list.
The metamagic feats of your character are also displayed. If you select a feat, the selection list of the spells will change accordingly.

Touch a uncast spell slot to cast a spell. The name will be striked through and the background color will change to grey. Now the spell is cast.

The clock icon in the action bar allows to rest your character. A resting character will refesh its spells. Cast spell slots of a spontanous spell caster will change to empty spell slots. For a preparing spell caster cast spells will change to uncast spells.
Uncast spell slots will be unchanged during resting for all spell casters.

Images

You can add two images to your character. The character image which is displayed as background of your character and a thumbnail. The thumbnail is shown in the character list.

You can add your own image to your character. First copy your image to your SD card. Second select the add image icon from the action bar. All images of your SD card will be displayed. Select the image of your character by touching it. Now you can crop the image, like any other image. To change the size touch and hold the borders of the selection rectangle. To move the selection rectangle touch and hold inside the rectangle. Press the ok button if your are fine with your image.

The image will be displayed as background of your Character Sheet.

Add Thumbnail

Adding a thumbnail image to your character is similar to adding an image to your character. Just select the add thumbnail icon from the action bar instead.

The thumbnail will be scaled to an image of 48x48 pixels. It will be displayed in the Character List.

The administration allows you to administer your races, character classes, abilities, skills, feats, weapons, armor and goods.

The race administration allows to create, and edit races. You can filter the races by typing their name. To create a new race touch the add sign in the action bar. To edit just touch a race of the list.

Enter the following info to create a new race. The name, size, base land speed and favorite character class. Touch the abilities to open the race abilities menu. Use back to create the race. If you haven't entered a race name it won't get created.

If you are missing an ability create it by using the ability administration.

You can edit each race to customize it to your needs. Just modify name, size, base land speed and favorite character class and abilities as you require. To edit the abilities touch on the them and open up the race abilities menu.

You remove an ability from the race by long touching the ability and choosing Remove Ability in the up popping context menu.

To add an ability touch the add sign in the action bar and the Search Ability menu appears.

Use back to save the abilities you want to assign to the race.

You can filter the abilities by entering letters. You select the ability to add by simply touching it.

The class administration allows you to create new character classes and edit existing ones.
To create a charactere class touch the add sign in the action bar.

Create the character class by using back. To avoid creating the class leave the name empty and go back.

Character class edition is done the same way as character class creation. Enter name, select alignments, choose hit die and base attack bonus, check high saves, select the class abilities, set the skill points per level and select the class skills.

Use back to save your changes.

The abilities are listed alphabetically.

You remove an ability from the character class by long touching the ability and choosing Remove Ability in the up popping context menu.

To add an ability touch the add sign in the action bar and the Search Ability menu appears.

Go back to save the abilities you want to assign to the race.

The ability administration allows to create, and edit abilities. Filter the list of abilities by entering letters.

Abilities are assigned to character classes and races. If you create a new ability make sure to edit the character class or race accordingly.

The first step to create a ability is to choose the class of the ability. The class determines the effect of the ability. The following classes are available.

Description ability Creates an ability with a description.
Extra feats ability This ability class allows to add extra feat points.
Extra skill points ability This class will add extra skill points.
Spell list ability The spell list ability allows to assign a spell list to it.

After selecting a class and touching the Create button the ability is created an you are lead to the Edit Ability mask. This mask allows you to enter the name and description of the ability and if necessary set more specific information.

You can edit the name, type and description of an ability. Some abilities allow you to set specific information, like extra feat points.

The class of the ability can't be changed after creating it. It is displayed on the mask but can't be modified.

Available ability types are Ordinary, Extraordinary, Spell-Like and Supernatural.

The description fields supports some HTML-Tags.

Skill Administration

The skill administration allows to create, edit and delete skills.

You can use the skill administration to slightly modify the skills. For example create different profession or craft skills.

All characters use the same skills, so if you create, edit or delete a skill all characters will be effected!

Skills are displayed alphabetically with their name and discription in the skill administration. Touch a skill to view and edit it. Use long touch on a skill to delete it.

Create a skill by entering its name and description. Select the ability it is based on and check if it can be used untrained. At last select the classes of the skill and go back to save it. Now the skill is available for all of your characters. If you leave the name empty, the skill won't be created by using back.

To edit a skill touch it in the skill administration. You can edit all attributes of a skill.

Keep in mind that the modification will be used by all characters. So if you rename the craft skill to craft (pottery) all characters will now display craft (pottery) instead of craft.

Back saves the changes.

You delete a skill by long touching it in the skill administration and selecting the Delete Skill option.

Notice that the skill is deleted for all characters!!!

Feat Administration

The feat administration allows you to create, edit and delete feats. You can use the feat administration to enter new feats, for example the feats of the Faerun Player Handbook.

Touch the add sign in the feat administration to open the Create Feat dialog. Enter the name of the feat, the type it belongs to, the benefit and prerequisit of the feat.

The additional spell levels are used by metamagic feats. It tells how many spell slots higher than the spell's actual level is required.

Check if it is a fighter bonus feat. If the feat can be gained multiple times, decide if it stacks.

Going back will create the feat. Only if you leave the feat name empty a new feat won't be created.

You delete a feat by long touching it in the feat administration and selecting the Delete Feat option.

Notice that the feat is deleted for all characters!!!

Create a new weapon by entering the following properties and then go back.

Name: The name of the weapon.
Type: The weapon type (Simple, Martial, Exotic or Ammo).
Cost: Cost of the weapon in gold pieces.
Weight: The weight of the weapon.
Quality: Quality of the weapon (Normal, Masterwork, Magical).
Enh. Bonus: The magical enhancement bonus of the weapon.
Damage: First enter the number of dice to roll for damage. Then choose the type of the die to roll.
Critical: Enter the number to roll for critical hit in the first field and the multiplier in the second.
Combat: Choose if it a melee or a ranged weapon.
Encumbrance: The encumbrance of the weapon (light-handed, one-handed or two-handed).
Category: The category the weapon belongs to (normal, reach, double, thrown, projectile or ammunition).
Family: The family the weapon belongs to.
Range: Enter the range increment of the weapon here.
Description: Last but not least enter the description

If you don't want to create a new weapon leave the name empty and go back.

Name: The name of the spell list
Short Name: The short name of the spell list
Domain: Check it for a domain spell list
Min. Level: The minimum level of the spell list
Max. Level: The maximum level of the spell list

Assign spells to the list by using the add sign in the action bar. This displays a list of all spells. You can search the list by entering the name of the spell. Select the spell and it will be added to the list.

Set the spell level of a spell by touching the plus and minus sign in front of its name.

Delete a spell from the list by pressing the red sign in the line of the spell.

Subschool: The sub school of the spell. Sub schools are: Calling, Charm, Complusion, Creation, Figment, Glamer, Healing, Pattern, Phantasm, Polymorph, Scrying, Shadow, Summoning and Teleportation. If the spell has no sub school select None
Descriptors: Check the desciptors the spell belongs to.
Component: Check the components the spell belongs to.
Casting Time: The casting time of the spell. You can choose between None, 1 standard action, 1 free action, 1 round, 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour and specific
Range: The range of the spell. Available options are Personal, Touch, Close, Medium, Long and specific
Spell Resist.: The spell resistance of the spell. Select from None, No, Yes, Yes (harmless), Yes (object), Yes (harmless, object) and specific
Effect Enter the effect of the spell
Saving throw Infromation about the saving throw
Material Comp. The material component required by the spell
Focus The focus of the spell
Short Desc. Give a short description of the spell
Description Complete description of the spell
